    Dear All

First post I believe and this might not be a little out of the domain of this board but...

Basically I have two computers at home that I want to use to render with one as a master and one as a slave,

both are 64 bit but one if windows vista and one is windows 7.

    I was wondering whether

    a) its possible to network these two? at work in the past I have had trouble getting different computers to work with one another ie

some machines windows xp 32bit and some windows 7 and 64bit, the slaves would not work across from these two builds and im not sure whether it was the operating system or the 64/32 bit or both.

    b) if it is possible to network them, what and how do I do that? abit of a big question im guessing

(...perhaps a quick Google search may be your best answer...)
      For example:
      http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Join-or-create-a-workgroup

Then when you have your network, see here to set up vray DR:

do you know if this works wirelessly and whether if it is wireless whether it effects processing time etc

the data transfer speed and quality does matter, and typically a wireless connection will be slower and lower quality (dropped packets, etc.) than a wired connection.

            Thanks Andy Bot,

I guess I'll have to invest in some Ethernet cables, should improve speeds considerably, since at the mo I'm used to running up to 24 cores and my own computer only has 4! Does a standard LAN do the job? It'll be the first time I've attempted to set one up.

Be forewarned that DR spawner is buggy. We are all waiting for the new release to resolve the issues with it.

Thanks for your replys guys, basically I've got the LAN up and have managed to send renders across it, however its not picking up the materials from the original model, I've started a new thread but if you guys know how to resolve that please let me know
