To import linework from a cad or pdf file, project it onto multiple surfaces, to create something like this:

Is there a question in there somewhere?

It's a one-item wish list... the question would be... "when will we get it? / Is there an alternative I can use right now?"

TIG's Shadows projector could be a good start.

The much nearer thing is this http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?p=320466#p320466
It does more or less what you want already - with a little up front work making the letter cutouts...
It can be expanded to include non-ground projections...

Thanks! How do I do non-ground projections?

Yeah, definitely not for complex objects... all curves and meshes are projected as if exploded or not softened, giving way too many vertices.

Find the 'project onto plane' tool to see how you can project onto any plane, not just the 'ground'...
The code would obviously need recombining BUT it is possible...
ALL edges need to be projected so 'curved' perimeters will result in multiple edges...

                    Hi Tig,

I've been looking for a solution to the above problem 'projecting onto multiple planes' with no luck. I need to create an anamorphic type image (similar to top photo) in sketchup...however the type needs to be projected onto a set of steps, i.e. numerous planes. Is there a command/tool that can do this? I dont think the Drape tool will work in this instance.

                    Thanks in advance
