Is it possible to force Curviloft to treat this as 4 edges and create a skin here with "Skinning of Shapes"? Because I really tried hard, but didn't get it... (I attached an .skp, too.)

It should be... it's normally very robust.
But I too am having issues getting a good result 😕
This version was made using my ExtrudeEdgesByRails tool, with the profile/melding-profile being the shorter curves and the longer sweeping curves the rails... seems to work OK ?Capture.PNG

The mesh it generates is very clean and nice, but if you look at it in side view it is not what you always want.

But I found out that Curviloft works with a little workaround. (One edge, no vertex in the center.)
