Hi guy's I have just started to use VRay for Sketchup having previously used Podium and I'm sure I'm having all the usual rendering problems any new user would have, creating materials, reflection, etc but I will come to those later. My question is I keep reading about materials libraries but don't seem to be able to create any of them. Any materials I create just seem to remain in the Sketchup file I'm working in and I have to go through the whole proccess again for each subsequent file I work in, I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, any advice

Well, there is a Materials folder in Sketchup, just like there is a Plugins folder. The materials folder contains files with a ".skm" extension. It also should contain some native samples installed with the program.

Thanks for the reply mitcorb but I have just found it, right click material and save as, how simple and how dumb am I Rest assured there will be more questions. Once again, Thanks

There are a couple of things you can do to create a library or add materials to an existing library. There's an arrow the points out to the right in the Materials browser just to the right of the library name. Set the library to In Model, click on that arrow and choose Open or Create a Collection... Or Save Collection As... If you want it to be easy to find later, you should also click to add the collection to favorites. Alternatively, if you click on the little plus icon in the upper right corner of the materials browser to open the secondary materials pane. Set the top one to In Model and the other to some library into which you want to save the materials. then click and drag the thumbnails from the top to the bottom pane.
