      I folks.

If you plan on doing a very complex selection and are afraid that you may loose it after an accidental click on empty space or whatever, like letting go of the SHIFT key, etc, I have the following trick: create a temporary group with some object or objects that are easy to rapidly select. Then, continue to select objects, cut them, open the temporary group and Paste it place. Get out of the group context and repeat the procedure.

When the group contains all the objects you want, enter its context and do what you need to do. The fun part is that if anything goes wrong, you can undo and you still have the group that still contains all your carefully selected objects.

When completely done with this selection (group), explode it.

This may seems like a lot of work but, believe me, the little time wasted using this trick will be much less than the time lost trying to reselect and rerereselect and ... etc.

A model that is well stuctured with components and named groups can also be easily managed with the Outliner.

      Just ideas.

This is one area where I geatly prefer AutoCAD's method. In AutoCAD you can keep selecting without de-selecting objects by accident. To de-select you hold down the Shift key. Much better than SketchUp.

weeeell... "better" is very subjective on this matter. I could easily take your statement and flip SketchUp and AutoCAD. I don't like the way of selecting in AC. But I do like that it let you restore previous selection.

So far as I know, it (Autocad) won't let you COPY previous. And don't try to do large selections for move or stretch and then zoom in for precision box selection, because in this case all that is selected has to be fully within display.

I take the slow, deliberate approach in my aimless wandering.

Ok - got something of a prototype working. I'm working on a deadline this weekend so I don't have much more time until next week to look at that.

Um, quick ACAD tutorial.. make a selection. hit Esc twice. invoke copy command. type "p" (for "previous"). Enter. (now you have your previous selection.) (you can do this in any command, including "ch")

Now as for Thomthom - you can really make a gizmo to choose between earlier selections!?! 😲

I have a version working already. When you activate the command it cycles through the last five selections.

I need to check how it acts under OSX. There could be an issue there - where you have multiple models open in the same process. Under Windows it is not an issue as there is just one model per process.
