There's no geometry there to render. So you're seeing the inner face of the upper wall. I wasn't happy with the models capping so I'll do my own. But my impatience led me to move away from modeling to texturing then to rendering then to posting then to eating then to TV but I've a tendency to get distracted. Anyway I think 7zip is what you're looking for πŸ˜‰

Yeah, I was wondering, too. Otherwise looks cool so far although indeed this is one of the most frequently overdone piece.
        πŸ˜†

I know the easiest method to avoid annoyingly meticulous texture positioning on the arches is to not texture them with (say) individual pieces of stone but a groutless, "plastered-like" material but if you really seek advice on developing the model and texturing, I would go that direction a bit. If anything, that could give some very great level of realism.

This is okay (avoiding the problem) and of course, I have seen worse - when the dude textured it with some rectangular stone material with the courses running horizontally.

Just some curiosity... Here is the "History of SzΓ©kesfehΓ©rvΓ‘r" (Hungary) on YT:

The starting scene with some Roman soldiers is in the Sponza. Now that's what I'd call "anachronism" πŸ˜’

(Also those legionaries in those mini skirts are frightening... There's this centurion always just "coming". I would really not lean forward to pick up the soap bar when he is behind me in the baths...)

Have you a texture in mind? I've been scanning my Thea mats but nothing as yet.

Not particularly. But I could imagine something that is just a row of bigger block stones. They would be great for all the sills and eaves and such, too.

You'll be playing with this for a while. I need to do some work today/tomorrow (yes, I sometimes do) but then I'll try to figure out something (I'd also need something like that).

I did some UV Toolkit mapping on the arches...

But when exported to Thea I get this result...

              Now I'm scratching my head?

I am also curious as to how you make the geometry not render but interact with other geometry. Or is this not what's happening? πŸ˜•

Like said before, there is no geometry, but if one actually like to have hiden geometry that renders shadows, it's possible with Thea render (and some other engines too): http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?p=315735#p315735

Found model on the web. 137mb in SketchUp. Cooked in Thea overnight.

Great looking textures! Did you use custom fresnel for the velvet? http://thearender.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=2829 (you can pick nice settings for the velvet from that tutorial)

I can only take credit for mapping. The whole kaboodle is on the web for others to try. It's textures alone are 80mb but SU handles it fine.

                        It's a beautiful model.

My render doesn't do it any justice. πŸ˜’

                          Good job so far πŸ‘
