Before jumping into computers get a piece of paper and a pencil and scribble some ideas...
Think of it as a puzzle you need to solve - Sherlock-Holmes .
You live in a house - or at least know people who do: all the brief asks is for you to come up with some ideas about what goes where on a site to provide a house and garden, using the limited parameters and components that they list.
An architect has to interpret a brief.
The deign has to address the users needs, wishes and budget.
Once you have so ideas use Sketchup to try and place simple slabs to create walls, roofs, floors etc...
Also look at the zillions of house models available on sites like the 3dWarehouse for clues on how bits are usually fitted together...
BUT think outside of the box...
It's not easy, but the rewards of solving a riddle - like a house-design - can be immense... -
TIG is absolutely right. it's a fun puzzle to solve. I might add, you've given yourself some basic parameters, but the real trick is to see figure how you can get all of your needs in as little square footage (meterage?)as possible. Most people tend to way overbuild because they think they need a lot of space to do relatively few things. Try and figure out how do make spaces do double or triple duty. Dont think of a room as only having one function. (case in point. .. dining rooms!) Have fun and Good luck.

Darn. . .I would've really likee to see the cartoon character thing in there.
