I love beer, and I also love pubs.

I am lucky enough to have a wonderful pub 50 yards from my front door. It serves 7 real ales and is generally thought to be one of the finest examples of an inter-war pub in Yorkshire, if not England. It even has a bar billiards table.

So, what's your local? What pub have is the nearest to you? Any interesting stories?

EDIT: Added a few more piccies.

Mine is rather a wine cellar than a beer place (they do not even have draught beer)

Capture.JPGThe Cross House. This is the 'modern' building. There's been a pub on this site since God knows when. The town cross is now in the middle of a traffic roundabout, but this used to be the old village green on which goose fairs were held until the early 19th C. The current village centre has moved about 200 yds the far side of the pub; the other end of Three Tuns Lane...a tun being my kind of beer barrel which weighed....well, a ton, equivalent to 8 barrels, 4 hogsheads, 3 firkins or 2 butts. πŸ˜„

This is what I love about pubs, each and everyone is different but they are all, in one way of another, integral parts of communities, and mean so many different things to so many different things.

All seem great pubs - would love a drink in them all!

TIG - I love the Maggy Bank, when we lived in Wallsend we would often take a walk along the Tyne, call in at the Wooden Doll, admire the views and then head onto the Maggy. I lived in Sandyford when at University so know the others very well. πŸ˜„

Solo - love the red phonebox outside - do they do any English ales? It seems a LOT classier than the faux 'English' bars you find in most European countries.

                  Rich - awesome, just awesome!

Gai - that place looks great. Exactly my sort of place. Who needs draught ales with that great selection in the fridge.

Alan - that looks more like a rural parsonage than a pub, looks welcoming, not a big fan of Greene King and it's ales though.

Me neither, but they have a few guest ales like 80/-, which I like. If I want a good choice of real ales I have to go to the Freshfield, a mile or so down the road.
All this is making me thirsty. It's a good job my local Rotary club is starting it's annual Beer Fest tomorrow. 43 real ales straight from the keg. There's some great brews from as far afield as Fyne Ales in Argyl. They have some absolutely stonking ales.
