DXF import
-
Hello,
I've got 3 discs full of models from Kermi showers, all in DXF. I can open them in Autocad but not SU8 Pro,
Whats the best procedure?
Mike -
Sup v8 Pro will import DXF files.
What is the problem exactly? ... -
Oh sorry I should have been clearer, when I try to use the native DXF import it fails, I just can't work out why
-
Do you get error messages?
What 'version' are the DXF files?
Can you 'save_as' an earlier version from CAD...
Could you provide one DXF file we can test? -
Here's a random example (I have a few Gigabytes worth..)
I don't get any helpful error message, it just says that it failed
If I save from cad as a different file it doesn't convert well/correctly

Ii imports OK for me, with the following options set [or mostly NOT set!] The DXF units seem to be 'meters'... I suspect that you were using small units and the geometry made was so small SUp/OpenGL couldn't support it so you got nothing.
Once you've done one and the DXF import settings are OK you can do a batch import from a folder using my batchimporter - http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?p=331966#p331966
Each DXF should import as a component - that way you can then save as a 'collection' of SKPs to a folder from the Component-Browser etc... You then have your DXFs as SKPs... -
That wasn't it
Only got to try today cause its my work pc.
I've downloaded free version of SU7, opening them there, then saving the .skp and opening it in my SU8. -
BUT it imports just fine for me in v8 OR v7...
As long as have all of the options unchecked and meters set as the units it should work OK.
Assuming all of the DXFs have the same units they should all import OK - my batch-importer would process a folder full automatically -
Yep I know your way should work, I can import them fine in 7.
Obviously some problem with my SU8..maybe a re-install is in order.. -
Sounds like your v8 DXFimporter is foobar - reinstall it...
