Congratulations

Not to worry Tom, both you and "the muscles from Brussels" are cool in my book.
Take that with a pinch of salt, I bet the majority of voters were ignorant that could not find Belguim on a map even with defined borders and names.
-
Oh, I don't take it seriously, it just made me laugh. Besides, Belgium uncool? Duh!
-
belgium not cool? Where do you find the best beer in the world then?
But it's true, so much people don't even know about Belgium, they know Brussels, but not belgium pretty weird

They oughta hurry up then. I don't think Belgium has more than a decade left. Which I find regrettable - the country may be a joke, but it happens to be one I like.
I kinda like how people don't know about Belgium. "Pour vivre heureux, vivons cachΓ©s."

Is Belgium somewhere near Brussels then?
My favourite Belgian.
He's not bad either.

Yeah !
Finally we won something ! Is there a prize ? ( a governement ? a national soccer team that can actually qualify for a championship ? a crown prince with an IQ over 75 ?)
(This is even better than our victory on the eurovision songcontest somewhere in the eighties)
Belgium, land of surrealism ...
Flapsy
(Nevertheless, it's a great place to live though ...)

I don't think our country will disappear, we have to much to loose if we do that..
@ Alan: very good choice indeed

I'm reasonably confident there's quite a few people around in Flanders who think the exact opposite - and their numbers are rapidly increasing. Ten years ago, if you'd out yourself as a supporter of Flemish independence, people would fetch you some valium. These days, you get a slap on the shoulder. Things are moving fast.
I'm not altogether sure if I'd like to live in a independent, predominantly right-wing Flanders. Maybe I'll ask for asylum in Wallonia.
Now, if Ghent were to become independent ... that'd be fun.

Send me some chocolate--NOW!!!

458 (!) days after the last elections it's finally happened: the Flemings and the Walloons have found common ground. Which means there will be no need for new elections - thus the rise of the nationalists is, at least temporarily, thwarted. I didn't think it would happen.
I could not be happier.

Well, I sent the negotiators your quote ("Now, if Ghent were to become independent ... that'd be fun.") and it seemed to do the trick...
(luckily you didn't wrote Antwerp or we would be separated by now )On a serious note, I really thought we were heading for new elections. Very happy that that 's out of the way (at least for now) and i don't think I'm the only one who feels that way.
I'm glad I never had to explain to people outside our country what B-H-V is/ was (!) all about because I probably wouldn't be able to (and I live in that area, so you can imagine)Flapsy

I can explain it, to some degree - at the cost of a severe headache. Thank God for Wikipedia!

Anyhow, I am quite pleased they've come up with a solution. At least now they can address the real problems.
You gotta give it to Di Rupo - he's one sly b*gger. Pun not intended.
