Render Section Cut
-
Hi
I'm trying to find out if any renderer will render a native SU section cut as it appears on the screen. I know Maxwell allows you to clip the scenes but that is not what I'm looking for.
Any help appreciated.

I was looking for a solution myself yesterday. I ended up using the Zorro2 plugin by Whaat which probably isn't what you are really looking for.

Well, Zorro2 especially combined with TIG's SectionCutFace can result in nice renders but as we know, Zorro2 is irreversibly destructive so unless you are ready to have a whole bunch of different models for the sake of several section cuts, it can be inconvenient.
"As if..." I had read of iRender NXT that it can render cuts (but I am not sure).
Also the Twilight Team keeps hinting that one future version of their renderer will be able to do this (we need to see it - no matter how eagerly looking forward to it).
I made these with Zorro2 and SectionCutFace...
One perspective made with two sections actually (the southern wall is also cut at a certain height)
Parallel with those two sections
And a parallel without that second cut in the southern wall

Thanks Kaas & Gaieus
I know about Zorro & Cut-face and it is exactly what I need but without all the issues of breaking up models and redoing it every time a client decides to make changes.
I'm going the check out iRender NXT - thanks Gaieus!regards Andre

I used the same tools (Zorro2 and SectionCutFace)with my Dome section...then rendered with Twilight.
Hadn't heard that about Twilight...that would be cool if they could figure out how to do that.

I remember this project, Antoine, a cool one, good to see it again!
Andre, I am not sure about iRender just remember "as if..." But have a look (at least we'll hopefully be updated)

Hi Gaieus
I've downloaded iRender and tried it with some models. The process is simple enough and it handles the section cuts but it takes forever to load the model in the renderer (65mb). I am way to impatient to see the first results....
For now I'll stick to native SU and Piranesi.
Thanks for the help
Andre
