      Howdy.

I'm attempting to create a model that I'll send off to the kind folks at Shapeways for 3D printing. The part is small, and intricate. Given SU's limitations at small scale, I've built it at 300x and now I'm attempting to scale it down.

What I'm seeing is odd. When I first scale it down, it appears fine. Then as soon as I attempt to save or export as a DAE, all kinds of holes open up in the surfaces that aren't there when the model is 300x larger (and that I don't want in the model). These happen around areas where I've intersected and clipped faces.

If you're interested, I'm attaching the model to play with. Not sure what to do to make this stop happening and would luuuuuuuuuv any guidance this esteemed community could provide.

      Thanks!
      -Ben

Scaled your model down by 1/300, exported as dae, imported back to SU, could not see you problem.

Like Mac1, I scaled, exported, and imported the file without seeing any holes.

Nothing is worthless, it can always be used as a bad example.

            Well shucks. This gets interesting.

So I was scaling this by using the tape measure tool on the line that you can see in the model below the main object. Measure - Set to 300. Measure - Set to 1. Etc...

When you do this, you get weird results.

After reading these replies I discovered and then tried the scale tool. When you scale using the scale tool on the object itself, the results are much better. There is still some minor repair to do, but it's manageable.

            Very odd...

Same here, I went for the "easy" approach, the 'Tape Measure' tool and not the scale tool where you need to input 0.00333....(repeat3). So I couldn't help you out.
But both methods don't seem to give the exact same results! The 'Tape Measure' method fails, while the 'Scale' tool still works (except for e few softened edges)
              Thanks for bringing this up.
