      Hi everyone,
This is my first post, I figured I would post a project I have been working on for a couple days. Feel free to leave your advice, I am trying to make this model as detailed as I can. I will upload updated pictures as the project progress.

Why? are you planning to submit it to a client, render it, or is this a personal project that you want to test the limits of yourself and SU?

          Thanks for the comment!
This is just a personal project, I would actually like to use it to teach myself the art of photo-real rendering.

Nice work. Are you doing the interior too?

Cool. People often forget that the most essential part of a good render is a good (detailed) model. Then of course, good texturing and just finally good lighting and some good environment and composition.

Mistro - Thanks, I think I will just be doing the exterior on this project. I will probably work on interiors on my next project.

Gaieus - I agree with you, I think the modeling sets the groundwork for a successful model. I have not had much experience with "quality" textures (since I can never find ones I like and Im not sure how to go about making my own) but it seems like the textures used for photo-real renderings will make or break your end results.

Speaking of textures I have a quick question, for the siding I was going to model each piece? Do you think this is going overboard and I could recieve good results by using a siding texture?

Well, a good siding texture can be almost as good as if you modelled every side plank (it's going to be wood, isn't it?). Certainly it also depends on the shots; for extreme close-ups, nothing really beats real geometry.

What are you rendering it in? (A lot of things may also depend on that - i.e. for certain things, either displacement or modelling is necessary).

I think I will model the planks, the extra little time it will take to model should make for a better finished product...I hope.

As far as rendering software I am not sure what to use, I have never really created a photo-real render with any luck before. I have SU Podium and Kerkythea, which I have played with a little in the past and seems fairly easy to use. I also have acess to Maxwell, which I have never used.

Which rendering software do most people use? Which one seems to give the best results. Vray and Thea seem to be popular ones from what I see on the forum, would it be worth looking into eiter of these?

I added the siding, gutters & downspouts, and a few other little details. I think I'm done modeling the house itself. I may model a bench/ chair or two for the deck...
Anyways, I have attached my progress so far, next step...textures!

Ok, I took a break from the house for a bit because I was not having much luck finding any textures I like. Instead I decided to try modeling a car. It was the first time I tried modeling anything other than a building so it could use some work still. I think it looks alright for my first attempt though, what do you guys think?

Looks remarkably similar to what my first cars looked like πŸ˜„
