just installed the newest ver of (free) sketchup and I always get this everytime I add measurement (unreadable).

First let's check your Model Info Dimension settings...
Try selecting a known simple font [like 'Arial'] that should work... Perhaps the default Template you have used has a font set that's either non-existent, or corrupt, or not in normal ASCII characters ?? If so you need to edit the Template[s] to fix it on future new SKPs... -
