How many Models do you have right MEOW?
-
Hey Rich, have you ever modelled for GE? Where are those models?
@Nathan - don't get these guys wrong. As you can see, SU is a much more generic tool than "just" making models for GE. Some of these dudes don't even like GE and Google's (alleged) purpose to turn SU into a "toy" for GE modelling.
I do like nicely made 3D models and especially whole neighbourhoods built up this way. I have just too much other work to model for GE (maybe one day)

Yes, there's a house in Limerick I did using streetview and my parents house. Search rclub24 in 3dwh. There's all sorts of shit in there I think?
I did it for GEDev award. Which I still don't have. I think I might have 4 actually?

Cool. Not great models but what should we expect?
By the way; how about a GE modelling contest? -
-
What?
-
A contest on modeling what? Please not some boring old crap that you normally do it's so uninteresting. I'd rather waterboarding
-
I dunno. Just came to my mind.
Maybe something in the countryside (so that if there are not too many models in the surrounding, it is not just standing there alone). Village churches? Castles or cottages? (These could disqualify some people in the New World however)

I'd be a good thing to get some GE awareness in this forum. I find they're quite a useful toolset. Not just for Modeling for GE.
Build This Competition would be great addition to the other comps that the others run. Even an already modelled building would do. Just to start it off

Did someone just see Super Troopers?

173 models uploaded to the warehouse, 145 accepted to GE. 2 drafts. None pending.
Going through a real lazy spell. I made a new years resolution to upload a model a day to the 3DW this year. I've done ONE model so far this year.

That has a long history, Nathan.
To put it short; many of the members here had been SU users before Google acquired SketchUp (developed by @Last Software until 2006) and many of that many disliked those changes.

And yes, indeed!

47 in the Warehouse and 47 in GE.
I find myself having a love/hate relationshop with GE models. I detest the poor quality models that are around, they are simply embarassing to all skilful SU modelers. Building Maker has a lot to answer for imho, many are pathetic.
However, rightly or wrongly, I do enjoy working on them and completing a good model, especially the more complex ones - my Heslington Hall is a good example.

A 'build this' competition would get a up from me. Could be a nice distraction every month.

I used to have some models in the Warehouse, but I got so sick of seeing them ripped off and claimed as someone else's that I took them all off again. The copies are still there...usually getting high ratings from all the self-congratulatory modders that couldn't model anything from scratch if their life depended on it.

12 uploaded, 3 pending, I have none listed that are rejected, but my draft rate is terrible. Since I upgraded to sketchup 8, it's usually taken 3 to 4 submissions and a couple of appeals to get my buildings accepted, though much of this is due to difficult terrain.
I think a "model this" competition would be really cool. I'm in the US, and I can tell you there are tons of small towns that would even appreciate a group of people modeling the landmark buildings in their community. I also think for those of us who geo-model for GE it would be an awesome way to help give practical pointers on one anothers' models so we can build a better GE.
I admit, building maker is not an ideal tool from a usefulness, efficiency, or geometric elegance standpoint, but it does get the job done as far as putting up a facade that goes a step beyond satellite imagery. It also populates buildings most wouldn't think to model, and all it takes to get some of those hideous models off is to model them better, which sketchup can do 100% of the time so long as a chimpanzee isn't running it. My brother's workplace is a great example, I've asked him to get me some pictures of his building, as the current one is a building-maker conglomeration, maybe I'll take before and afters when he finally gets them to me!
