Huge layout pdf exports
-
I had a sketchup model of an office complex. It has lots of highrise buildings with heights varying from 15 -30 floors. I sent that to layout. But on exporting it as a pdf ...Layout stopped responding. I have Intel Core2Quad Processor with 4 GB RAM. Is there a tip to export pdfs from large models from layout.??

Sometimes when the Export to PDF does not work properly in Layout 3
I try to print the file instead of exporting it,
if you have CutePDF writer installed as a printer option, it may work for you too.here is the link in case you dont have it.

if they are in high detail they are absolutely massive... I tried to do a layout set the other day and it was a 300 meg pdf. freaking nuts.

It seems to be the same with all 3D applications: PDF exports tend to be huge. For me the "Reduce file size" command in Adobe Acrobat (in Standard an Professional versions) has often proved very useful. I just tried for an example: I exported a 9-page Layout file that gave a 15-megabyte PDF, and Acrobat reduced that into 980K with no visible deterioration in quality. Archicad and Revit exports seem reduce even more.

how much time did it take to export??

if you look around the internet you will find several ways to reduce the size of pdf files. I found a great way to reduce pdf files by 75% on mac.

not very long to export.... I would say 10 minutes tops.

I use PDF995 it installs as a printer port on your computer, so you just print as if you were plotting your plans on a printer. it prints out in a pdf file on your computer and the file sizes are very reasonable. this way I can skip the whole export thing. I use it in autocad as well.
