How to extrude an uneven area up?

I wonder whether someone would be able to help me with a problem I'm having on sketchup 8. I have a been given a site model with the existing terrain in place. I am trying to ammend this terrain (uneven areas) by lifting certain segments up vertically. I have managed to intersect the uneven area so that I have the bits ready to extrude up but im not quite sure how actually exrude them? Is there a simple plugin I can use for this?
