I'm trying to import a sketchup file. I had previously loaded this component, but then deleted it and re-worked it in the other file. Now I want to import the new version into my project, but it keeps giving me the old version. I can import the new version if I start a new file, so why can't I import it into this existing one?

You may have to purge unused items. In Sketchup, Window> Model Info> Purge Unused. I would be careful. This probably needs more discussion.

I take the slow, deliberate approach in my aimless wandering.

That seems to have done the trick, thanks.

If it has the same name then the original version isn't overwritten by 'import'.
BUT you can 'Reload' it simply by selecting a placed instance [or it's icon in the model tab of the Component Browser] and select that right-click menu item; if it's not the the same folder as it was originally you'll have to navigate to it... A 'Reload' will then update all instances of the originally imported component with the current version in the external SKP file...
