hi guys, iv placed a grass material on a sandbox, all looks good until i render. it seems to push the sandbox down/or the rest of the objects up level with the length of the grass...any ideas why this is happening?

Check the direction of the face you displace. I'm guessing you got the front-face facing down - which is why the displacement pushes downwards as well.

also see that your displacement image to not be inverted (negative) or if the software have this feature. Also, see if displacing direction in material is not negative(maxwell render accepts this feature).
