Default tape tool behaviour

Does anyone know how to make the (SU 8)tape-measure tool start WITHOUT the + feature added?
I can turn it off with ctrl, but why is it enabled by default? - drives me nuts!
thanks

no... all three methods (T shortcut, Drop Down Menu and Toolbar) result in the +tape measure first.

It is enabled by default because It was determined by a poll a few years ago that most people use the tool primarily to place construction geometry. I'm one of those folks who does. And usually, when I just want to measure something, I don't bother hit Ctrl to turn off the +. I just don't click for the second point. After I've read the dimension, I switch to another tool which I would probably do anyway.

hmm...must have missed that poll!
Thats all very well, but I find that if I don't turn off the construction line option, I usually end up with a couple around anyway by mistake..
Well, whatever, I guess its set in stone now.cheers

You can set up a keyboard shortcut for Edit>Delete Guides to make it easy to get rid of them when you don't need them.

I was one that voted to do it the other way....but we were the minority. Though by Google's logic, not having the + enabled by default would be more in line with other tools that use the same logic, therefore it should not have ever gone to a vote, they should have implemented it the way the other tools do it for consistency...

Well, when yu are measuring (without wanting to add construction geometry), you can just hover over with the tape measure tool (without clicking) and get the measurement. I think (if I remember correctly) this was the reasoning behind making the add function the default if you also click. So if you do not want to guide point, just do not click.
