A SU to 3DCoat project
-
Nothing special, just to show a possible workflow.
- The new SU8 collada export is compatible with blender 2.49b collada1.4 importer. (ask to triangulate, no textures needed as we gonna paint and UV to another app)
- I Used blender2.49b just to convert the collada to obj. Here we have to (a) join the groups to one mesh (b) select all vertices and delete doubles. Easy 2 clicks operation. Export as obj.
- Imported to 3dcoat, more sculpt and simple texture wrapping. Added the statuette. Some clay is needed here.
A ~20K tris mesh, rendered in 3dcoat, real time Cuda supported renderer at 4000px.
Or alternatively export it as a 3K mesh with UVs and normal or displacement maps.
*Its important to clean all internal faces in SU first. Normals of faces outward, and keep the mesh waterproof (no openings)
**(blender2.5x-2.56 is full of bugs and importers don't work well)Not a precise copy but inspired from the Alberto Giacometti's great sculpting.

Thanks for keeping us informed about this, michalis!

Point #2 - you mention joining groups into 1 then deleting doubles. What do you mean exactly? Double what?
-
Duplicate vertices maybe?
-
Duplicate co-planar faces?

It seams that collada exporter (or blender importer) duplicates vertices-faces. It also splits meshes in an unpredictable way .
So two-three clicks operations in blender fix all these. Join the objects, remove doubles (vertices)
Merci beaucoup Pilou ! Il y en a d'autres à suivre , j'espère -

Without problem as soon as I discover some cool one!

A fast 10 min sculpting in 3dcoat. A cave like scene
Imported in SU, with UVs and low poly topology ~20k
Download the skp here and have fun

Using podium v2, no bumps etc, but I like this impressionistic mood
You may prefer to download the .3ds file with normal and displacement maps (for thea users lol) Displacement works fine with 2-3 subdivisions. Recommended.

Here a 3dcoat render, in real time.
