      Victor,
You might try this http://plentycom.jp/en/steermouse/ I use it instead of the Logitech drivers/programs which I have always had problems with on a Mac.

I am using a Logitech mouse however - fairy simple one with a few extra buttons but not too many.

I have a simple wireless Logitech mouse for my MacBook Pro. I opened the package, put a battery in the mouse and plugged the receiver into the USB port. No drivers installed or anything else. It worked properly with SketchUp and all other applications from the get go.

            Jeff,
            I misunderstood too.

But now I wonder if I should feel deprived - Ctrl-Cmd does nothing for me. The ony way I can invoke the temporary Orbit command is via the middle mouse button. However, since this is the only way I ever do it, I am not too worried!

            Strange. Try it again.
Press and hold control & command then click and hold the left mouse button. You should now be orbiting.
It works on all macs I've tried it on and I use it a lot on my laptop. Fortunately, I use my right hand on the trackpad instead of my left 😄

              Jeff,
You are right, can't think why I couldn't make it work before. I somehow don't see myself using that key combo however, the MMB is so much second nature to me.

it's good for laptops.. especially when drawing on an airplane or quickies at the jobsite etc..

i was hoping the 8.0.4 update would have some mac trackpad support but unfortunately no. (two-finger orbit etc.)
mac rhino has this implemented already and it's pretty sweet.

Anyone know if there is a similar solution to working on a trackpad for pcs?

It doesn't appear that there is, Paul. You can try it yourself by pressing the various combinations of modifiers and the trackpad buttons. You could use O, the default keyboard shortcut, to activate the Orbit tool or assign a different one. Once you have the Orbit tool active, pressing Shift will activate Pan.
