SKETCHUP CRASH when drag and drop files !!!
-
Yes, I get the BugSplat (with an image file).
Thanks. Nice one! -
An interesting discovery was that it happens in Windows as well as Wine (all XP/Vista/7 mode), but SketchUp didn't crash in Wine 1.3.4, only in newer versions.
Can someone test it on a Mac (I don't have one)? Is it only between SketchUp <-> Windows?

I tried a JPG. It even appeared nicely in the SU modelspace, moving with my cursor. No crash. Perhaps using a 64-bit OS (Win 7 Pro) has something to do with it.

no problems on mac.
[that said, i think macs are different than windows here in that my sketchup window has to have focus before it will accept a drag/drop to begin with]
[edit- oh wait, no, i can drag/drop to it when other windows are focused in front of it -- i just have to change focus to the SU window before it appears there.. i can actually dragdrop to an unfocused su window then cycle through some other apps.. when i go SU, the image is on the cursor waiting to be placed]
for clarity, i also tried repeating the steps involving hovering an image over the su window then moving it away without dropping it.. still no crash

I use Win 7 Ultimate 32bit. And Sketchup crashes all the time, no exception. Maybe this image will explain better. Sketchup doesn't crash as long as I'm moving the file with the mouse, but immediately after I place the file in its new place.

Hello,
I have tried several times to reproduce this issue and can not. I tried Windows 7 64 and 32 bit. I have tried image, documents, folders, shortcuts, in detail view, thumbnail view, tile view. The file moves across the SketchUp work space, SketchUp shows the image as if I were going to place it and then the file is moved into the new directory.
There has to be something I'm missing if others can reproduce it and I can't.
Please let me know what I'm missing?
Thank you.

Hi Brad,
I added a link to the video screen-grab in the bug report. I cannot really say more - it just happens any time I do this. Maybe it's a video card dependent crash?

hmmm... Could this be a MysticThumb issue? Any of you lot have it installed?
I have gotten confirmed a case where MT could cause SU to crash. -
I don't have it (and don't needit on my 32 bit XP)
-
Thanks for both of your replies on this.
Thomas could you send me the Plugin?
Thank you.

I have gotten confirmed a case where MT could cause SU to crash.I don't have that installed, but I have other two thumbnail generators:
Real World (I use it just for 3ds files) and This for dwg files. I could not find something to generate thumbnails for all of them. Now, that you mention it, I think that those two programs to make my days bad.
Is there any better alternative? I really need to see dwg/dxf and 3ds thumbnails.

I have Windows7-64 Pro and AutoCad Architecture 2011 and I can see thumbnails/preview images for DWG files. I would guess that if you don't have AutoCad, installing the DWG TrueView (free download from Autodesk) might give the same functionality. Also, TrueView is very useful by itself as a viewer and converter. Besides viewing and printing it can convert to old DWG and DXF formats down to AutoCad version 10 or 12 (from the early 1990s).

AnssiIndeed, is free download, but is trial version . It costs $1200.
Thanks anyway. I'll be looking for free alternatives (or very low-cost, if it worths the money). -

( I noticed that they are advertising for LT on the right of the page, while the "Download now" button on the left, in the text column is much smaller...clever businessmen?)Anssi

AnssiThanks Anssi! I got caught myself in that marketing trap, I guess... Now I downloaded the free version.
