How can I generate a UV map!?
-
I need to export a model with a single texture. I don't want to have to painstakingly position a single texture over every darned face. There are a few plugins around but none of them seem to do the job of just generating a model and UV map.
-
Generate a model? Are you talking about UV unwrapping?
-
I need to create a single texture that contains all of the model's texture. A model and one texture map is all. I don't want to have to spend hours aligning a texture map to every goddamned face.

I think your best bet is to try Dale's UVTools 2: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?t=23725
It acts as a bridge between various third party UV Mappers you can use. -
That's not what I meant. I want the exported model to have a single texture file containing all the individual textures. It's for a gaming app.
-
Isn't that's what you use UV unwrapping for?
I don't know any other utility or feature that do what you say, not even in other applications. -
Perhaps he is using skewed textures and export splits the texture in parts? I think use of Dale's UVTools 2 and external UV mapping is fairly easy solution for SU UV mapping issues. Well, if you want to do it better... need to do re-topology with 3DCoat or similar and then do UVs...

Here's my model. To be specific, I want to convert it to X-Plane's obj format, which only accepts one texture map.
-
For that you need to use some UV Unwrap tool. And UVTools2 is the best way to bridge to a utility that can do that because no such thing exists for SketchUp.
Though this model is simple enough that is can be done quickly by hand. Setting up UV Unwrap also takes some time.
Either way - no one-click solution. -
I think what you're after is called Texture Atlasing.
