Blue Balls

Eric, so well done as always
I really need to jump into Thea Render and start having some fun. At the moment I'm designing some Polynesian themed kiosks and the Fur plugin is doing such a nice job in creating thatch, I'm really loving that plugin
-
Eric, I had a break from project today, so rendered a quick one too, keeping on topic of balls.

-
That's a load of balls Pete! You made a right balls of it...

Nice render though Pete.

Edit: Hmmm. There's no one in the reflection taking a picture or anything.

-
Nice rendering Pete. You sure do have a lot of balls. Mine are 3'-9" in diameter however. How big are your balls?
-
My balls are huge!!

was wondering if the thread was deleted or something by nah, it's still there

Ok Pete, you win again

May I ask a serious question? Why would one model his bal-, er, ornaments so large. Seriously though. I would like to know what is the advantage to having larger-than-life models. Would someone please enlighten me.

-
John, I jest, I shrunk the person.
-
So they are really about 2"-3" in diameter? Gotcha'.

-
Actually I did draw mine over 3 feet in diameter. I wanted to have a real smooth mesh and when you draw small objects sometimes SketchUp cannot fill in the polygons. Sometimes it is better to model large then scale it down, sometimes.
-
Ooooohhh K. Now I get it. Thanks.
-
An unfortunate workaround in my opinion.
Units are arbitrary measures.
You could conceivably set inches at 100 times what Sketchup has it set. Same with metric. -
cool eric, tinsel looks great! i think ball would look even better with a coloured mirror finish and a night-time city hdri. merry christmas!
lots of free ones here http://www.smartibl.com/sibl/archive.html
-
Eric, that tinsel is great. Maybe some "bold" material like http://www.thearender.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=30463#p30463 could fit in scene too.
-
Wow, I never knew about those textures. Thanks.
-
As promised Here is the published tutorial
-
Great project and very helpful tutorial!! thanks so much

I followed your publication Boofredlay, eveythings works just fine except that the tops of my fur comes out pointy instead of square as your sample. where am I going wrong?
