Putting a Rectangle Down the Middle of a Shape?

If I draw a shape, lets say a square, is there an easy way to draw a very thin rectangle down the middle of the square?
I do often do this when I create windows for houses and want to have a separation in the window.I know how to create a line down the middle of a square. Sketchup helps you to do that very easily, but drawing a thin rectangle right down the middle is difficult.
You can start the thin rectangle in the middle, but that would make one side of the rectangle in the middle and not the actual rectangle itself.

You could move the rectangle over after drawing it. For windows you could use the Windowizer plugin from smustard.com . That would take care of dividing the window into smaller lights. Seems to me there's another plugin that would help draw the mullion strips in, too but I'm not seeing it at the moment.

Good question. It would be nice to have some sort of a tool like CAD has (can't remember the name at the moment) where you draw one "line" and it creates a line on either side of where you draw at specified distances.
Typically what I do in that situation is draw a line down the middle, offset it by 2", select both lines and move them back 1" - not the quickest process. Perhaps there's a ruby solution out there already.

This is not something SketchUp can do automatically. If you're up for it, Bonzai has a 3d wall tool that does what you want. They have a 30 day trial, and it's got a similar learning curve to SU.

Yes it would! An offset multiple lines at the same time would be even better. Add an option to also offset and create the connecting lines and form a face and you have a stellar plugin.
