[Plugin] Point_Component v2.4 2009
-
Unzip and place in the plugin folder. Freely use, and abuse at your own risk. Fitness of use is not warranty[/attachment]
This release, v2.4 improves on pointing a component. It also includes the function to rotate an adjustable ligh beam for "IDX Ceiling Light #01". Right click on any component to rotate.
The current implementation for adjustable lighting is a beta release. It will only point once, on a flat ceiling, light mounted in a vertical position. Pointing whole components do not have these limitations.I initially wrote this plugin a in order to point lights to aid rendering objects. Right click to select a component, select from the menu "point to component" or "point light fixture beam", then place, and click the mouse pointer on what ever you want the selected component to point its zaxis to. The component, or light beam will rotate on its origin. Most of the time, component axis is in the corner of it's bounding box, not in the center. Move the axis if necessary.

Thanks.

I like this one, thanks Honolulu!

Hi Chris, or any one, if you can help me with the above code so the the axis tilt's without rotation, we can improve the plugin.
-
Thank you for your work, this plugin already came very handy for pointing Twilight spot lights inside SU, did the job in seconds as the axis center of the lights is centered, I just pointed the light without the fixture for a small change in the z-axis target.

sir sorry for being annoying to many questions. does this plugin works also for my idx?

It should as it is not rendering engine specific but points the SU component. Give it a try!

Updated point component plugin includes beta code for pointing IDX light fixtures as an adjustable light for rendering purposes. IDX provides a free download for those who wish to test rotating the beam of a adjustable light fixture. Read the top post for "beta" limitations.

Hi Honolulu,
Thanks for posting the plug-in.
For some unknown reasons, I don't have a plugin folder in my computer. I have a MAC.
I am using Sketchup 8 Pro.Here is what I see inside my computer:
my username - library - application support - Google Sketup 8 - Sketchup - and then these folders:
Autosave, Materials, Old colorsIf I don't have a "Plugin" folder, what should I do?
Thank you so much in advance,
Kind regards,
Caroline

Hi again Honolulu,
Would you happen to have this same plugin in a rbz file? Maybe it could work with my Sketchup 8 Pro?
Thanks again,
Caroline
-
Hi Caroline,
Simply rename the ZIP file extension to RBZ and you can use the install extension function under SketchUp > Preferences > Extensions (in SU version
-
Thank you Gai for your quick response.
I tried the Sketchup - Preferences - Extensions - Install Extensions ; with renamed .rbz plugin in the zip file, as unfortunate as it is, there is an error message appearing saying "impossible to install extension"...
Would you happen to have an B plan? Thanks again!
Best regards,
Caroline

Did you rename the original ZIP extension to RBZ? Or something inside the ZIP files? (Sorry, it is not clear to me what you did)

Oh.. do I LOVE this plugin. I have been struggling with IDX Renditioner lights for weeks and was even planning to use another rendering tool JUST because of light placement. This tool saved me lots of time and money....
Thanks so much Honoluludesktop.
