New guy here looking to learn more about sketchup. I also will use SU for woodworking mostly. I saw a community forum before joining but it disappeared and is unavailable to me now. How do I join this forum? Thanks in advance and looking forward to my time here.

Welcome to SCF,
When you are logged in you see 'User Control Panel' top left of the forums. In here, you can select which 'User Groups' you wish to join. There's a 'User Group' tab in the UCP.
