Looking for big table model
-
Looks like you did a nice job. 8185 edges in each leg component is likely pertinent to size. When I unsmoothed/unsoftened the odd surface actions went away. Perhaps those settings could be refined if you like them. The modeling is better revealed without, to my eye. I should check the effect of smoothing on file size.

Yes you are right about the softening, I think it's just me wanting to see everything smooth as I work with it. I'm too used to working in stone/glass/wood etc where every little bump is either something to remove or is part of the design. For me the form is the surface not the underlying geometry.
I guess my problem is I think in 3D reality and I need to think in 3 virtual D.And thanks, that is some great feedback, it helps no end when you can see it from someone else's perspective.
Sorry, enough thread Hijack.

I want to deal with my bumps, because if I don't they will haunt me (multiply insidiously) and so I want to see them as clearly as possible.
The smoothing in your model didn't look right to me, but the geometry was. See image. That's why I mentioned maybe adjusting the settings.
But I was wrong about the file size: it increased when I de-smoothed. ???
(And as for thread hijacking, you're the one who's done most of the work around here.)

Thanks a lot for responding so quickly - especially Box with the splendid skp. I am going to try to smooth out the raised parts on the supports to make it less ornate (more farmhouse) and check the sizes. If successful will post the resulting skp and hopefully in due course a photo of the real thing ... n'shala!
Many thanks
Chris

If you just want the plain curves then here it is,
You can scale to whatever size you want. -
Thanks Box. I have been playing around with your model and came up with this more modestly sized version - 900 x 2000 x 750 high.

Nice one Chris, I'm glad I was able to help.

Do you mean publish them here?
If so start a new topic called "Chinese style furniture designs" and use the upload attachment device to post a few examples in the first post. It would be a good idea anyway if you want to gather some comments and critiques.
Btw my big table has been ordered and work will start in the Zhongshan workshop in three weeks time.

Delivered today ...
same spirit I think even with though quite different support style.
Also made a platform bed base with elephantine legs and demountable undercart ...
and an experiment with kitchen unit units - this one for the back balcony (yet to be plumbed in) ...
Note wood door and drawer furniture. Doors have dowels instead of hinges.
All is camphorwood with raised grain and clear finish.
More experiments in hand including sofa, armchairs, TV trolley, wardrobes and so on.
