Any News?

Hi Jim (and all),
I am sure that once everyone at home, they will post all their experiences. There waas a "SU 9" session but I did not take part. I guess they would not have said mre than what most of us knew already anyway.
Yesterday I visited Pete's presentation on Thea and toda a Vue presentation, There will be more precise news soon I believe.
-
Yes there have been some great talks im sure it will all be written up soon.
Obviously SU8 will be discussed, there a few good new rendering engines as well as animation using SU, you wouldn't believe what they can do with i-clone, vue etc. -
Yes the presentations were very good. Too many to attend unfortunately.
You can see pictures Here while you wait for all those traveling back home to start commenting.
I for one need to shut my computer down because I believe the second after party is starting.

Hopefully the tube videos will be uploaded soon. Just looked it up: in 2008 it took around two weeks before they were available - don't wanna wait this long...
Guess there has some approval to be given, so we have to repress our impatience -
Sorry shura, no videos this time. This Basecamp was set up differently so there was not a proper way to get good videos of smaller conversations and presentations. There was a Google representative at each unconference session taking notes and those will be available soon but no video.
-
Maybe the very first (big) presentation on day 1 (when they also announced SU was recorded. But not the individual, smaller presentations not to speak about the sessions.
Some photos were taken however (among the ones Eric linked, there are some taken at Solo's Thea presentation for instance).
Mike was playing about with his iPhone recording videos but I do not know how they will end up.

Csaba, this whole Picasa thing is new to me, how do I post images to the base-camp album?

You just go to the album then 'view all'. You will see an option at the top to 'add more' photos. Thats it!
make sure you are on view all and not looking at a single photo. -
Sniff, I really loved the videos from Basecamp '08. Seen them over and over. Well, let's see what the "notes" can bring across. How could I be complaining about something that is free anyway? . Thanks guys for the info!

-
Gai has to add you to the list Pete then you can add photos.

Csaba.
Add me also. I am in Atlanta at the moment, should be back home end of next week and I can upload some pics too. -
I saw an interesting subject in one of the pictures (the "Friends of SketchUp" list) and I was wondering if anyone attended the part where E-on LumentRT was showed?
Solo maybe?
Tried Googling but couldnt find any info. What's it about? -
I saw it. It is a GPU based real time walktrhough type thing. It is not for high res rendering, but real time walk throughs with reflections, accurate lighting. And it is something you can make as a distributable .exe file (not sure if it is mac capable yet?) and send to a client and they can walkthrough your design, nicely rendered, in real time. No plugin for them to download, it all comes as a single .exe file. It looked interesting. Probably nothing I would use, but I do not do a lot of Arch. Vis. for clients that want 3d walkthroughs.

What about SDS2 demo? I would be happy to get a updated version.
-
Thats to bad about the vids. I learned a lot from watching the 2008 edition.

Was it any good? Was it customisable? Did they say something about a website or anything for more info?

Regarding LumenRT, I cannot say a thing guys, I have an NDA.
SDS 2 however is looking frigging awesome, Whaat showed the 'alpha' version that still needs lots of work, like menu system, UI, etc. However what he showed so far was amazing as he has integrated so many sculpt tools, poly reducing options, soft select, pinching/bulging tools..I cannot even remember all the stuff he has packed into it, almost a whole app on it's own.
