New Monitor, need advise
-
It's a monitor by AOC. The vidio card is a GeForce 9500 GT. I think it's hooked up vga. It came with a HDMI cord also but I didn't see a place to plug it in to my computer. I just hooked it to the old cable that went with the old moniter.

I would suggest using the HDMI cable as that's digital and VGA is analogue (vast difference in image quality) So, your monitor has HDMI but your video card does not?
I thought all the 9 series Nvidia cards have HDMI outs, I have an old computer with a 8800gtx which has 2 HDMI outs for dual monitors.

Thanks Solo, just got back and pulled out the computer for a second look and it does indeed have a HDMI port. It does make a difference, much crisper now. I was toying with the idea of using the old monitor as a second, but don't know if I can do it or not. I still have the old vga port, could I just hook it up as well to the old monitor,or is there more to such a configuration?

Sorry to suggest something so simple, but did you right click on a blank part of the desktop screen and select properties > settings then adjust for a higher screen resolution, then properties > appearance and adjust font size.
-
Yes, it was the first thing I did when I fired up the new monitor. As I said in the last post, the switch to the HDMI cable proved to be the ticket.

Didn't realize that a HDMI connection would make a difference regarding jaggies. Wow, when I go to work tomorrow, I'll have to see if my 24" monitor has a HDMI port.

Most video cards are able to run two monitors, but more than two and you need another card.
Just plug in the VGA and the HDMI and go to display/settings and enable the second monitor.
There is a program (not Free but with a free trial) called VT Multi Display with works very well when you have a multiple monitor set up.http://www.villagetronic.com/vtmd/index.html
Even with a laptop it is possible to use two large screens, you simply disable the laptop screen.

Thanks Box, I'll give it a go.

You are very smart to have gotten that monitor. Easy to love, no?
-
Yup, no doubt the best thing I've done in quite awhile. Didn't realize how cheap they had gotten.Paid a little over $150 US. Easy on the eyes and wallet!

$150.00 for a 24" monitor?-0 That's a fourth of what I paid for mine. Are 30" under $1,000.00 now?
