Shortcut to rotate material
-
I'd like to set up a shortcut to rotate materials 90d and another to reset. Can't find anything in the list of commands that seems right for those. Anyone here know what I should be using as base commands?

The nearest in Select a Face that has a Textured Material, and right-click to give Texture option: you can then shortcut in Preferences for Texture to say Alt+T [as I do] - at least you are then in 'Texture' and a right-click gives you the rotate options...

I've got that one already, thanks. It's the next step -- the actual rotation -- I'd really like to have as a shortcut. Wonder why it's not in the list Google provided?

You can only shortcut to menu items, menu sub-menu items and the equivalent items in context-menus.
So you can shortcut to Texture as it appears in the context-menu [and at the Bottom of the Edit menu] if a textured face is selected, BUT you can't shortcut to items that are only on dialogs and that's where the rotate_texture command is... -
You can even go as far as to assign a shortcut to Texture y Position but as TIG says, from there on, you need to do it manually.
However once you rotated the texture on one face, you can always sample that position with the Alt + tool and apply it on other faces.

It's a series of long, narrow faces aligned in an arc. Painting them normally does align the texture along the arc but I'm using a non-tiling texture and so for each face I have to position one corner to a vertex and then rotate it 90d. I'll do a handful and then group them, copy, paste in place, rotate group to build it up.
It's just that it would be nice to shortcut the rotate step.
On that thought, I find it odd that SU allows you to select n number of faces and do something common to them all -- rotate, move, paint, whatever but when it comes to the texture menu items it always has to be one face at a time. Makes no sense to be so limited.

Thomthom has a plugin called UV Toolkit that can do wonders. Have a look at this arch texturing tutorial where I used it.
Also, even if it is not about an arch (and of course your arc is semicircular), you can position the texture on just one segment and use the Copy-Rotate tool to distribute it along the arc (in this case it will of course be the same texture on each facet)
