I remember reading there's a workaround for the 'mat settings not saving' bug in 01.05.30. I forgot what it was, andd that bug is driving me bonkers! Anyone wanna jog my memory?

Open the Options window before you save.

Ahhhhh!! Here I was opening Vray's mat editor before saving!!

After making changes to any materials, open the Option window before you save. Does not matter how many changes you do.

It's a mean bug in that version that you might not immediacy notice.
