Moving model axis - ground is unchanged?
-
Hi -
Is it normal for the ground plane to remain unchanged when redefining the model axis?
I had a large model that appeared about 100' up the Z axis. Instead of moving it down to the the model origin, I just moved the axis up.
However, when I turned the ground on, and made some shadows, the shadows were still falling 100' below, where the origin used to be.
Is there a command to move the ground plane?

Can't you move the model? Inside the model space, or by inserting it into another SU instance 100' down, then move the model axis.
-
Sure. I'm able to move the model back to the ground level.
I'm trying to understand if it's possible to move the ground level; and if it's normal for the ground level not to move when the xy plane is moved.

There are two kinds of axes systems in SU;
- The original world axes which you cannot move
- and the temporary world axes that you place wherever you want only for modelling purposes.
This means that if you want correct shadows on the ground plane, you have to move your model where it should be OR if you do not need the ground plane shadows (and model your own ground), in the shadow dialog box, at the bottom, uncheck "On ground".
However best would be to move your model to the real 0 Z value.

Hi Gaieus -
Thanks for your comments.
Do you know if there's a way to reset the temporary world axis to the original world axis? In other words, once you've moved the temporary world axis using the "Axes" tool, how do you know where the original world axis is?
-
Hover over any axis line away from geometry and right-click - pick on 'reset axes'... returns to 'world-axes'.

Perfect.
Thank you, TIG.
