Works also with groups & components! πŸ˜‰

That creates edges in the places where the groups are dashed. But I want a script to make that automatically: That it is possible to subtract an object of other, as in any application 3D.

Intersecting (and the lines created) always happens in the context you are in. So if you want to intersect a group with other geometry, you have to be in its editing context otherwise the group itself won't be affected by the intersection.

but intersect doesnt automatically create/delete the faces that are booleaned, sure there are techniques for doing this but rubie scripts make it all easier... i think it would be very handy

I don't understand anything of Ruby Script, me leaning that it would be very easy to do a script to do that.

This script.. is what i need!!!

Because.. i need to do a render with vray of a section cut.. but vray doesn't render the section.. it consider the whole of model.

The trick to do this, is erase the other side that is hide by the section plane.. but if you have many groups in your model.. there are 2 ways:

              1. create a plane with rect.. end place it in the same place of the section plane, and then.. place it in EVERY GROUP THAT YOU HAVE IN THE MODEL.. intersect and then erase..

              2. create a plane with rect.. and EXPLODE all the groups in your model.. intersect.. and then.. erase (always in parrel view.. it's better..)

But.. in the first situation.. if you have a big model.. NEEDS MORE AND MORE TIME.. in the second situation.. if you need the block for material, or anithing else.. you can go crazy to recreate them..

A solution.. imho.. will be.. a script that:

              1. can intersect WITH WHOLE THE MODEL.. indifferent with the group..
              2. if you use.. a 2d plane (in any position in the 3d space..).. one of the 2 side of this place, can mean that all the bit that are in front of this side.. will be mantained.. and whole the bit in front of the other side.. will erased..

The best.. will be a script that work with section plane.. and when i call this script a windows screen appair and allow me to save the model that it generate, with an other name (ex. model_SECTIONX.skp)..

Is a dream?? i will do it.. but i don't know from where can start.. πŸ˜›

Thanks a lot my friends.. hope in the future!!!

I know its an old post guys, but one word: Zorro.

Still looking for a proper way to do complex booleans in sketchup without manually deleting though..

I use BoolTools as well. Does anybody happen to know if BoolTools is still being developed. It's been lingering around Version 1.000 for quite a while now. More often then not it works fine as long as the geometries in question are simple. Still I have enough cases where the Difference Tool messes up my group completely. Plus some options would be nice like not deleting the stamp when using the difference tool and stuff. Or is there a new alternative to BoolTools that I am not aware of?

There may be a update to BoolTools at some point but probably not for a long time. One way to keep the stamp for the difference tool is to first select the stamp and press 'Ctrl+c' to copy, then perform the boolean, then use the 'paste in place' command. It's a bit clunky but it works.

A bit strange though that I've paid some money for a plug-in you can hardly call a "beta"-release. I think 9 of the 10 times I use this plug-in it doesn't work properly. It just doesn't do the job. Why ask money for it then? The author admids its not that perfect; "It's a bit clunky but it works". Well it's a bit clunky but it doesn't work....shame of the money.....

By 'clunky' I was referring to the workflow for keeping the 'cutting' geometry, not the plugin itself. From my tests and from user feedback, the plugin works very well. The times when it does not work are almost always due to an issue/bug with SketchUp itself, not the plugin. (i.e. the inability of SketchUp to create very small edges and faces).

If you are unsatisfied with the plugin, send an email to Smustard and you can get a refund.

                            Regards,
                            Dale

yup most of the time bool tools needs cleanup even after dissecting simple components, which is a big shame to ask money for such a thing. i mean its kinda neat, but coulda draw the darn thing by hand 10 times by now if I didn't had to go to paypal and pay for it, extract the zip and complain about it hahah

                              oh well

OSCoolean doesn't seem to work either. I think such a thing should be worked out by Trimble into the core of Sketchup.
