Select by color or similar?????

Is there a way to select all by color or perhaps as in Photo Shop, select all similar?

Don't worry... some years ago [as a newbie scripter] I wrote and published the definitive Ruby to select_all by_same_material... but then someone [think it was RickW] pointed out you could already do it from the built-in right-click context-menu 'Select...' options...
