I've seen them on Pepsi bottles. I think they have something to do with Bluetooth, but as I don't have any Bluetooth devices or have been interested in any of the promotions I've never looked at how they work.

Apparently you can point your phone at them and it can read the code. Then what? The web browser on the phone goes to a site with more information?

I'm still not sure about how it makes sens on a web page.

Update - the web site I was reading offers them as a convenience so they can be printed and attached to physical objects. (example: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2000)

            Hi

Just found an 'App' for my iPhone that will read these and link to sites, promotions, nutritional info etc... Have to admit it's clever but unless adopted worldwide kind of pointless?

As for Thingiverse, it's bookmarked, great site thanks for the link Jim πŸ‘

I can see where bar codes on a web page could be useful for information you might want to read with a phone-based scanner or perhaps even a scan gun. I can't think of specific data I'd want to copy to my phone but then again, my two soup cans and string don't read bar codes anyway.

It can enter their info into your phone for one thing - like as a contact. So I could change my avatar to my contact info and people can take a photo and it could enter my info - phone, email, name, adress, etc into their phone's contacts. It could put in links into their phone for all my scripts.

And on my phone, I can generate my contact info and display it as a barcode so someone else cane take a photo of my screen and read it into their phone that way.

Its sort of cool sort of gimicky. We'll see how long it lasts.

                  Chris

Those are cool. Me and a friend were trying to figure out a website to use those as a means of accessing special offers. Gear them towards the mobile market. Program the image to take you to a specific web page that is only accessible by taking a picture of the code. And ya, great for collecting e-business cards. Hopefully they will get more popular.

                    Cheers,

                    Jeff

A store could have a code printed and posted at the entrance when you walk in. Take a picture and you get the specials for the day, week or whatever.

                        Hello yet again,

Here is one site to get the QR Code reader for your phone:

                        http://www.i-nigma.com/Downloadi-nigmaReader.html

And here is a site to generate the code.

QR Code Generator from the ZXing Project

                        favicon

                        (zxing.appspot.com)

                        It's really easy.

                        Cheers,

                        Jeff

My Seagate HDD I bought last year has 3 of them, 2 square ones, and 1 on the circuit board looks like 4 square version one after the other, preceded and followed by regular bar code.
