I dont know if Iam missing something but vray comes with nothing else than the program itself. I mean no components, materials or test scene...
It's quite surprising compared to other softwares.
So I wanted to know if theres material we can download from their (ASGVIS) download area. I already explored the common one but theres another I cant access (request a number I dont get, contacted C.Crudabue about it but no answer for now) so Thom maybe you can tell me what theres behind that place?
I think we also should begin our own Vray component place to share... I mainly think about prebuild light components...

You can't access the material download area? http://software.asgvis.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=57&Itemid=439&Ctitle=Materials

      Did you log in?

It says: YOU MUST LOGIN TO BE ABLE TO DOWNLOAD FILES FROM THIS AREA

Yes I can access that part of the site, no problems. It's the other one that ask for an access number and called DOWNLOAD AREA:
        http://software.asgvis.com/index.php?page=shop.downloads&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=628&vmcchk=1&Itemid=62
And how about sharing more than materials: components as we do in 3Dwarehouse but with VRAY informations in it, lights etc..

Ah yea - that download area. I've never understood what that's for.

As for components etc - not sure if they have the capacity for that. They are a pretty small company. Remember they are mainly a viz company that makes the plugins to connect V-Ray with SU and Rhino. They are not the ones making the V-Ray engine.

Or did you want an area where us users can upload V-Ray setup components?

yes thom I was thinking of doing this ourself. Here in SU forums or anywhere else were can upload some content.
It would be a sketchup biblio, but with vary embeded informations. perhaps it could be done at 3Dwarehouse?
I am also working on my own website but its taking time and my hard drive place will not be so big...

Well, with this new version materials transfer with the SU material. With the exception of external bitmaps. the ones that are no in the diffuse layer are just linked to your HD - so they need to be provided additionally with the model.

just did a some test about it (Vray materials that come with SU ones).
I created 3 simple materials. One with dirt map in diffuse. One with stucco in bump. and one imported in VFSU and applied in SU. The first two get problems: dirt maps and stucco do not come with. the last one come OK with reflexion diffuse etc...
Strange no perhaps it gets problem to carry procedural properties?
