In trying to diagnose a VisMap plugin problem in the Ruby forum I did the following:

I took my main model (40MB) and started deleting layers (after I had deleted all but one scene). It initially had 205 layers and 22 scenes. After each set of deletions (about 20 at a time), I updated the scene and saved the model, then tried to "Get Data From Model" [Note: this is a VisMap thing].

I finally had to delete ALL the layers except Layer(0) before VisMap would "Get Data from Model".

The really weird thing is that the file is still 13.6MB!!!!!!

This suggested something not right in how SU handles "something". How could a model with nothing in it be 13.6MB ❓ ❓

Anyone have any idea what's going on?

Did you delete embedded components and textures?
These are the two usually most heavy.
        Use PurgeAll script.

          Have you purged the model?

Do you get this on a Mac?

            Empty layer file.png

Basically I guess somehow you have deleted the layers but not all the content; but I would be surprised if the layers took that many mbs.

Yes, even if all geometry is deleted from the model space, used components, materials and even styles can add considerable amount of Mb's to it until you purge everything.
