The name Ruby, name for a SketchUp extension, is a proper name, and therefore capitalized.

A ruby, a SketchUp extension, is a generic term. The name of the language is Ruby but the plugin is a ruby.

      Factoids and opinions please?

A factoid: Aidan Chopra, (or maybe Aidan Chopra's copy editor) calls the plugins "Rubies."

Sounds good. Though I prefer calling a plugin a plugin. Calling a plugin a ruby sounds odd to me.

A plugin is most usually a 'Ruby script': this is often abbreviated to 'Ruby' [or ruby], with the plural 'Rubies' [or rubies].
Consider that a plugin could be complied file too, so 'plugin' is perhaps too generic.
If a plugin were a script written in the Ruby language then I'd call it a 'Ruby' [or Ruby script] - but if you called it a 'ruby' [or even a plugin] I would put out a fatwa on you... we'd all know what we meant...

Unkompiliertenrubyskriptdatei might be pushing the bounds too much !

Yes, it might be a tad too long.

Would that work better in Norwegian?

Seriously, Ruby is good because "plugin" and "Google SketchUp plugin" are synonyms here, but not out in the big world outside this forum.
