I'm running into a problem that's basically kicking my ass.

I've got 2 OBJ import scripts and both are having problems with importing any object.. they ignore scale.

I found this when I was trying to export pieces of my TARDIS model from trueSpace to Sketchup to work on - Sketchup is great for doing pipework and I'm doing a LOT of pipework on this model.

thing is, things come into Sketchup tiny. at first I thought it was trueSpace's export.. but the OBJ's are coming into Hexagon and Blender at the correct size.

an example with a cube : Exported from trueSpace at a size of 2meters (78.74 inches). Imported into Sketchup at a size of 2 inches.

the same cube imported into Hex and Blender at the size of 2meters, saved them out from Hex and Blender... and they imported into Sketchup at a size of 2 inches....

anyone got any ideas what the problem is?

        update with some more fun...

a cube created in Hexagon with a 6x6x6 size, exported with meters or inches as the scale.... comes in at about .005 meters square.

        erm what?

At a guess i'd say the import scripts your using assume the model unit is inches and so are messing up the scale on import.

A quick thought: what units are you working with in SU? the importer might go by what your model units are, thus messing up the import. If this is the case you could try changing your model units to metres.

another temporary solution would be to use the tape measure tool to resize the model after youve imported it. All you do is select the stuff you want to resize->measure a known length with the tape measure->type in how long it's meant to be->press enter.

I thought about the resize idea.. the only problem there is exporting back the completed assemblies to tS.. but I can work round that if I have to..

I've tried all the templates I have and it's the same with all of them.
            the scripts I'm using are

            http://sketchuptips.blogspot.com/2006/12/plugin-obj-importer.html
            http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=180&t=19866

both are giving me the same results.. a 78x78x78inch cube is appearing as a 2x2x2inch cube in Sketchup (same with non cubes - all objects are being affected). position's being scaled as well.

            ironically, exporting is working fine.

edit - I tried the imports on a 2nd machine with a fresh install of SU. same results 😞

              Which scripts are you using?

Its worth having a look through them to see if theirs anything obvious that you could change to get them to import properly.

Give this a go, no guarantees it will work.

you know I just realised.. I did'nt show why I needed this..

                                my on going TARDIS project..
modeled and rendered in trueSpace 4.3.. until I got stuck doing the pipes. but with Jim's Importer and your Fix Remus, I can use SU's lovely abilities to just snap pipe sections together to carry on...
