What version of SketchUp do you use
-
We have been surveying some of our users, and have seen many, many more SketchUp Pro users than we would have guessed. (We might have guessed that less than 10% of the users used the Pro version)
Also, we are starting work on more MAC versions of our applications (we have just one so far), and can't help but wonder how many Mac users are out there. (One users group I work with is over 80% MAC)
So, if you don't mind, take a second and let everyone know what you use regularly.
(You can select more than one, But each should be at least 20% of you use, so I have limited you to 4 choices)Feel free to leave comments as well.

You mean 25%..?

No - I didn't figure that anyone would use 5 at exactly 20% - There has to be one which is used more than the other 4. If they used one 21%, then one has to drop to 19%, so they can only list 4.

Gotcha!

I'm always on the current version and I've never considered not upgrading.

-
I see that I have also failed at communication skills
See edit. But, what you suggest covers those that use both. I recall skewed and biodal distributions, but never came across a reverse curve (assuming that most use only Pcs, or Mac). Good thing I could draw.I see the numbers are increasing. Be nice to get about 200 votes so that you could draw some kind of conclusion.

I could have run 3 polls, but I will be able to tell what I want from this one.
For instance, would Mac vs PC have had 5 choices?
All MAC
Most MAC
50-50
Most PC
All PCI do not want to know exact numbers, but rather is MAC about X % of PC. If X < 5%, then why waste time on the MAC. If X > 30%, then why are we working on anything else.
The Pro/Free results are clearly skewed by the fact the Pro users are more likely (as a group) to use SketchUcation, then free users.
And the version questions, again, is just to get a rough guess. If more than 15% to 20% of SU users do not upgrade, then we may need to be careful that our applications work with older versions. Often this is as simple as making sure that the sample drawings and components we include with the application are saved in SU 5 or SU 6 format.

Hi Al, All anyone can say from the poll is that of the people who come to this forum, and choose to vote from 1 to 4 times, they indicate that xx% of the vote select SUVxx. That's ok except that you do not even know how many people voted, so its hard to make a statement about what individual preferences are. Poll questions sometimes seem too narrow, but occasionally for the sake of being able to make any representation, they must be. There are (currently as I write this) 22 votes, so as little as 6 or as many as 22 people have voted. I would guess that you need about 150 people (150 to 600 votes) to get a cross section of the people who vote here. You would still not know if that cross section represented SU users.
It would have been better to conduct 2 simpler polls; [one poll, primarily Mac vs Pc users,] and another, Preference for SUVxx (listing the various selections). In each poll, you only get one vote. Although somewhat suspect, it is better to make assumptions about the Mac SUVxx users from two polls then this one.
I should say that I took ONE whole ed-statistics class in college, and worked on a couple of public polls thus qualifying me as a dangerous expert

Is this really the case - 1 out of 10 SketchUp users uses a MAC?
(Maybe someone from SketchUp would like to lend a statistic here?)
-
Hi Al, Guess you could say that "Out of the people who answered this pool, from 1 out of 10, to 4 out of 10, use SU on a Mac". Because the sample set is too small, 60 votes, or from 15 to 60 persons, you can not say the sample set statistically represents any group users other then those who answered the poll.
But, remember I am a one class expert:-) It was a summer session at that.

We have one other source of information.
Of the people who have download RpWallMaker Free (which runs on both Mac and Windows), 1 in 6 have downloaded the Mac version. (1 Mac download for every 5 Windows downloads).
One of the reasons we created these free products (RpTreeMaker Free as well) is to get more information about who uses SketchUp and how to reach out to them. (For instance, it is probably safe to presume that not all SketchUp users participate in this forum)
