"Rosy" translates on the fly - Impressive!
-
Have you a link about that?
-
I'm from Portugal and i can tell you the translation is almost perfect (still minor glitches in the gramar but nothing very important).
The impressive thing here is the translation and adaptation of full sentences almost perfect, instead of just one word as usual, speccially to portuguese that it's not an easy language to learn for others.
Really cool -
Chris, could you try from english to spanish? And what happens if you paste a text? "Rosy" translates all too?

I don't know, guys. I've always been a bit sceptic about any automated translations (or maybe they only sound stupid in my language?)
The easiest way to check if they work is to get a text translated from one language to the other and then back to the first language. Now I tried with Chris' first post in Google translate. It came out rather funny in Hungarian (not making too much sense) but then after I re-translated it into English, there was almost no difference between the original and the result.
Maybe Google translate is "thinking" in English even when "speaking" in another language?

I want to see French

Maybe there more simply a human behind, who knows?

My favorite example is from some early computer-translation work in the '60s. They took the Biblical quote, "The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak," and translated it into Russian and back to English. It came out "The wine is acceptable but the meat is disappointing."

ok, I added Magyar and Spanish. I've got a feeling the magyar might be a bit cryptic!
Chris

Well, a "magyar" noun can have about 1,200 different forms (an English noun normally has 2 - singular and plural) We even conjugate infinitives.
What do you expect from Google? -
Hey Chris, could you also try Romanian when you have time?
Thanks. -

I must say that the spanish translation is a lot much better than in Google translate.. but still has glitches.
If I only read the rosy translation I understand that rosy plays the guitar for you and that you play to be a kid. Changing 5 or 6 words will make a perfect translation.
But is really helpful to have rosy. Thank you for showing this Chris!Daniel S

Just, thought of a cool tool for forums.
What if Rosy could be integrated into forums, so anyone can read and write no matter what their native labguage is. I mean every message could be translated into english, the normal messgae would be up, and the translated message would be bellow in something similar to what the quote are now or viceversa.
That would be awesomeI know that wave does that already, but what if you don't wnat to use a wave.....
-
That is precisely what "waves" are going to do for us soon. They can be embedded in forums like this. So this whole thread would be a "wave" that all of us subscribe to. And any of us could add the Rosy bot to it, and she would transalte between any langugage we specify. Its pretty cool stuff! And the Wave API is open, so people can already start embedding Wave features into websites.

Very impressive - this could accelerate global business no end, sign up here: http://wave.google.com/

Well then, can't wait
-
chris,
just saw your first post. compared to other translation engines this is an amazing improvement. the translation is not 100% correct but it makes complete sense. besides, not all portuguese speakers have total command of their language... wave seems to be very promising.
regards.

Sorry Chris, I've just realised you added the Hungarian thing to the first post. Well, let meput this way; hopefully Wave will come out of beta one day with certain improvements...
As you could see, there were even words/expressions (almost a line) that weren't even translated just put in there in English. If I red that Hungarian text, I would maybe more or less understand what you are trying to say but if there's somebody near you who can translate, I'd definitely ask.

I don't see French Chris test
Are you beta testing of this surfer's wave?
