if yo u want a real change...move to linux

Why Linux Steve? tell me more....
-
andrew
many reasons i guess
doesn't it represent total freedom from the mainstream
most linux distros are free...you can always have the latest version
development is community driven and not by big business
for reasons i don't fully understand, viruses are not really an issue
really easy to use systems are growing rapidly
a lot of "equivalent" software is becoming available all the time...mostly free
drivers usually available...good community support
many native windows applications (including SU) can run on emulators or virtual machines
hey the list goes onif you want to read more, check out the articles on TechRepublic. here's one for starters
http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/window-on-windows/?p=11it's not all a walk in the park...there can be problems
i'm a big fan. but i haven't gone all the way...my computers are xp/linux dual boot.steve

i couldn't handle a change right now (well, that and i guess i don't want to change)..
and besides, i just learned how to properly pronounce 'linux' about 4 days ago -
so how do you say it, jeff? let's hear it!!!
-
haha
for starters, the first syllable doesn't sound like "lie"
i always said it as if i were saying "Linus" (charlie brown's bud) with an X instead of an S on the end -
I'm using NOD32 and its great. Usually one of the top softwares in tests.

Microsoft has put an end to your need for any third party help with:
onetouch.com - virus scanner (free at the moment)
defender - anti-trojan (always free)
xp/vista - built in firewall (or free ZoneAlarm by Checkpoint) -
personally i wouldnt trust any of those (except zonealarm, that was pretty good last time i used it.) I have them running and i can't think of a single occasion on which they detected a threat, and i have had several trojans/viruses.

Head to http://www.filehippo.com for for a great little program that scans your programs and tells which ones need updating.
Also try drivermax for a free driver updating solution

Hi pinari,

Rising Anti-virus does a boot-time and memory scan before launching Windows.Regards

I also used to use AVG and I did like it although for some reason, this Avast sems top be more "convenient" for me now. But I can't say anything wrong about AVG
The same for me, I've nearly tried every product and ended since one and a half year with avast and am satisfied, regarding terms of reliability and resource charge.
