Are you asking if you can paint the components differently from each other?
If so, I doubt it. As far as I know, All of the same components must be completely Identical.
If you're asking if you can project a texture from outside a component without opening it, I don't think so either, but don't know.
If it's something else, I have no idea.

when they were components, while i was editing one the texture would be projected uniquly but as soon as i closed out of it, it reverted its texture to the original?!

it seems the groups show up one way when their opened and i paint them, then differently when i close them too. i'm very confused. 👊

I see by your last post that you figured it out. Before I got to that I was going to suggest that you not paint the component or group wrapper.

well all i really figured out is that faces, groups, and components all can be textured, but i would still like to be able to have a projected texture in a group or component! 😢
