GML texturizer 2.0
-
A little update on the use of this plugin:
Thanks Pilou and Juju (by pm) for the assistance to point me in the right direction.
The GML texturizer is actually a useful tool.
Especially when you need to texture the surrounding buildings in your project. For instance from images you shot of the site the project is located on.It works a bit similar to the default SU photomatch technique. You mark 4 points on the skewed part you want to use from the reference photo. For instance a facade. When you hit 'OK', the texture will be automatically applied to the surface you have selected. The texture will be straightened and alligned.
Here's a screen of the GML screen (it pops up when you hit the GML icon within SU):
On the left the reference image, on the right the corrected straight texture. When hitting 'apply', the texture will transfer automatically to the selected surface:
I am sure this plugin can be a handy tool for a lot of people.
Ok, you could do a photomatch, but very often the reference photos aren't suited for that, so you want to just pick the facades one by one using the GML texturizer.
This could also be done by using Photoshop, but the GML is handier as it automates the operations for you.Another tip on using it.
Before clicking the GML icon in Sketchup, import the reference image 'as a texture' in sketchup for the GML texturizer to work properly.I hope this little explanation can be of use to people.
Cheers,

Also, kwist, have a look at your material browser now. AFAIK (I'm not at my computer now) the plugin creates a copy of the "cropped" image (or something like that) so you may purge the unused parts (if it is possible).
Then there is another nifty application by the same developers: GML undistorter which will eliminate the "barrel distortion" in an image made by wide angle cameras. Positioning and "skewing" textures is not that hard in SU either - even with the native "Positioning in free pin mode" - but this distortion cannot be eliminated once the image is imported with it.
-
Thanks Kwistenbiebel for focusing on that point.
I use Undistorder from the same Laboratory, before working on pictures with Photomatch.I did'nt notice they also wrote such a plugin. It's in fact really convenient to add the capabilities of this texturizer.

Yes, it is one of those plugins that are already out for some time and not getting the attention it deserves....
-
2 be honest. this is my first time of seeing it. and looks awesome.

I remember seeing the website before. I must have written off the plugin as not being worth downloading. Even when I had a look at this thread my first thought was that PS made this plugin redundant.
I actually think that this could be one of the best plugins of all though.

Great, but is there a way to get a mac version?

i am afraid not. the best you can do is to run it on windows under simulation.

Has anyone found a version that works with sketchup 7
-
Have you tried it and it does not work? Almost all plugins that work with 6 work with 7. There are VERY few exceptions.
But if you tried it and doesn't work, then I guess add this one to the list of those that are not compatible...

It works fine with SU7 for me.
Thinking about this further, have you made sure you've installed GML Text. into SU7, rather than just taking the rubies from the SU6 folder and pasting them into the SU7 folder?
-
hmm maybe that was the problem, i'll try and reinstall it

Thank You!

Hi,
Me too is looking for the 2.0 version. Tried in a couple places to find it but I just get sent to the contact pages for two people of MSU.
Does anyone know if this still available for download and if so where?
Thanks,
