      Create the shape with (rectangular faces)
      Sub-divide and smooth (ruby)
      Then using FFD (ruby) you define the shape.

              Thank you all. the stool turned out quite nice, but i had one more question. If i was trying to create the Kartell Gem Stool, is there a knurl tool or something to that effect that would triangulate the surface to have the realistic qualities of the stool. Thanks again I appreciate you taking the time to help.

                      No, that is not my model. It is an image I got of the web. I posted it so others could see what was required. It looks tricky to model.
