I have a wish. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to temporarily fix a 2d drawing plane into ones model. For instance wouldn't it be nice to be able to fix a drawing plane onto the front face of a building to allow the drawing of windows, doors and other features directly onto the elevation without worring about being on the face (actually this may not be the best example since I accept that this is not too difficult at the moment). In my imagination it would only be possible to place the ends on lines in that plane so you could be sure of achieving flat planes and it would make it easy-peasy to extend planes beyond their orginal shape.

Anybody else think this would be useful?

Personally i find it pretty easy to just draw a rectangle in and group it where i need a drawing plane.

Ooh, just had another brain wave, you can already use inferencing to do this.

Get out your line tool, hold it over the face you want it to be in the same plane as, hold shift and draw away to your hearts content.

Thats all very well but nferencing doesn't work outside the face you are working on and drawing a rectangle only works on one of the three main axis's.

If you hold down shift while your mouse is over the face it should lock the inference in the same plane, you can then start drawing, even outside the face your working on.

And you dont have to use the rectangle tool to draw a rectangle, its perfectly possible to do it using the line tool.

remus is right. I just checked it to be entirely sure. you can even draw several lines in a row (complex poly lines to close a face). as long as you keep holding down the shift key (starting when your cursor hovers over the face) it will continuously refer to this plane as drawing plane...
