Hello and Welcome to SketchUcation, the largest independent self financing SketchUp support site and forums catering for 330,000+ SketchUp users Worldwide.
In this Beginners Forum we believe, 'There are no stupid questions! Only stupid answers!', so please don't be reluctant about asking any questions you may have or just saying 'Hi' and telling us a little about yourself
Due to the popularity of SketchUcation and the ever increasing amount of spam we are receiving, your first posts will be moderated before becoming public. Unfortunately this means that your first post does not go live immediately, but our moderators are located in many time zone around the World and quickly approve non spamming first posts so the time delay is kept to the very minimum.
On reading your first post we may move it to a more suited forum but you will always be able find your posts under the "View your posts" (link at the top).
Also, please note that Private Message facilities are not available until members have made a number of constructive posts. This unfortunate step has been taken due to non posting members soliciting help / information and even free work from our overworked Moderators and Top SketchUcators. The only exception will be new Premium Members which will have full privileges from the offset.
Our Premium Membership packages offer a number of ways that Premium Membership can be enjoyed, we have a once off amount, a reoccurring amount and a monthly 'easy payment' system. Becoming a SketchUcation Premium Member has many advantages over Standard Membership, $100s of dollars worth of 2D and 3D models, textures, styles and plugins, 20% discounts on all our shop items, free entry to monthly raffles for hardware, software and subscriptions worth $1000s each month!
We also provide a special Premium Member Rank on the forums and nowthe option to view and download files with Ad Block on, Standard membership requires AdBlock switched off. Full details can be viewed here http://sketchucation.com/register.html. The Private Consulting Rooms offer the New Member a place to get virtually immediate help and assistance ...... all for an extremely low price of 20 cents a day!
If your question / request is a SketchUp related commercial matter (Advertising, Product Promotion or SketchUp Contract Work), please contact Mike Lucey at the Team SketchUcation page for further information.
If you have any suggestions or requests on how we can improve this independent self financing SketchUp support site and forums, please let us know. We are always listening and here to help

Hi Stu.
Please, have a look at this thread about Leopard hang fix. Maybe it will help you.
And welcome to the forums. -
Hi All! I got dragged out of lurkerdom by the nanotube thread, so I thought I might as well introduce myself here. I'm a (retired) COBOL programmer by trade, and I dabble in computer graphics and design because I like to build things. And I like to build things from plans. And I like to create the plans myself.
I first saw SketchUp work on the talkgraphics forum, where Ross Macintosh would show off his SketchUp houses, dressed up with Xara X. I was using Xara for my design work at that time, and I was very disappointed when I found that SketchUp was out of my price range for hobby software. When Google came along, all that changed, and I adopted SketchUp for design work. I still use Xara for photo tweaking and website stuff, though.
Anyway, I started hanging around the old Sketchup forum and reading all the tuts. I followed the work of Joe Wood as much as I could -- he does stuff that I like to do. I'm glad to see him here. And Durant Hapke is very entertaining!
Currently, I'm following GreenToaster and his 5-minute car experiments, and I'm intrigued by the "organic" modeling concepts being tried out by others. I'm working on a model of a fiberglass sailplane that's very organic (all curves), and I'll post that when I'm happy with it.
Oops, dinner calls...

Hello, My name is Tito, ive been working with SU in the skatepark business, we feel it is a great medium when presenting custom designed skateparks. After lurking here a bit i see that my level would possibly be in the "lower" scale in regards to modeling and such.
I hope to possibly learn some thigs in this site that will assist me in furthering my SU skills...I do have one question, wich is how i stumbled to this site, does anybody know when the Soap skin bubble will be availible again and if not, another type of plugin that creates similar forms?
we use soap skinn bubles in the creation of odd sections joining on deep and shallow ends of pools/bowls...
Thanks

that AD bellowed so loud I think my neighbors are calling the cops.
Well thank you for checking out the site and the words of encouragement as I progress with it! As for the audio ads... it is something that I am testing out on this site to see if it truly is worth having. After your message I have decided to put up a warning to visitors on the homepage.
Ohh by the way, I checked out your site. Your models look great! Did you use v-ray or some other program to get the great night lighting rendering?

Hello
I am having a problem in the Third Tutorial. Step 13 says to go to the Window Pull Down Menu and click on Display Settings. There is no Display Setting tab.
-
Steve, they probably mean 'styles' rather than display settings.

Hi I'm a new SketchuUp user using the free version. I'm drawing some plans for a custom made cabinet for my bathroom. I've not been able to find out how to scale the drawing space in relation to what I'm drawing. Without using zoom my cabinet looks lost on the screen. I've watching video tutorials and reading "How to" files all day and I can't find the answer. Any help would be much appreciated.
-
Dakota, the 'drawing space' in sketchup is infinite, so unless you use zoom to get in good and close to your model, everything is going to look lost.
-
Thanks Remus.

I am a new user and would like to know how to create a new material fill.

Hi Dan,
Have a look at the input / Output > Import > 2D Graphic import section of the SU Guide.
There it says about importing images as textures. -
Thank you Gaieus,
It always helps to revisit the manual. Another question I have is, Can you create a fill in SU or do you need to use another program and then import it into SU? I am working on an architectural rendering and want to design and try a number of different siding designs quickly to see what they will look. -
What "fill" do you exactly mean?
-
Gaieus,
I guess I mean a repeating pattern that will fill a plane like the side of a house. Like a lap siding that has texture(3D visual depth) to it.
Thank you,
Dan
