sorry no time to try it right now.

but what I would do is create the terrain and later cut the retaining wall into the terrain. thus you don't have to mess around with vertical terrain (doesn't work in SU).

perhaps I find some time tomorrow to try it out. good luck!

Thanks for looking Jakob... I tried that earlier but I was having problems where the grades die into the retaining walls... I should probably just spend more time playing around with the grades in AutoCAD to see if I can come up with a better solution...

give it a shot if you draw in the intersection of the grade w/ the retaining walls... that way create from contours has an edge to connect to on the face of the wall. You will probably have to delete out some terrain that is created within the thickness of the wall. Also, your contours look strange on the entry road that is flanked by two walls, shouldn't they just be straight(ish) lines?

You have to take into account that the road surface drop six inches for the curb and gutter...

ah- if you're just going for the pretty picture, that might be one place to simplify and cut back on polygons

Unfortunately not... it has to be as precise as possible...

                  grouping the slopes into groups
                  then use the sandbox tool
fill in the gaps between the groups

I have done quite a bit of site work using SU- I can't stress enough, the cleaner your topos are coming from cad the easier any modeling will be in SU... I alway make sure they are polyline (pe -> multi line ->make polyline -> join) This will make things much easier for you once you bring your topos into SU. I also do "repair lines" (ruby script) this will join and fix all of your topo lines which may have not imported correctly.

You also may need to extend some of your topolines beyond the site boundaries then after you make your surface, you can stamp the site boundary and erase the extras.

                      Hope this helps a little.
